I adore making engagement rings. They are always as unique as the women who wear them. This geometric salt and pepper diamond ring is the epitome of that rule. When my client first came in, she knew she loved the unique, rustic style stones. Her fiance had proposed to her using a “placeholder” ring, so that she could design her own one-of-a-kind piece. She knew she wanted a unique center, but hadn’t nailed down any of the details about the setting yet. Through my collaborative process, we went through several versions of the design based around a round rose cut diamond center. When we brought in the stones to look at them, they were all beautiful, but I could tell we hadn’t found her center stone, yet.

We were looking for a stone that set her heart on fire.

After several rounds of looking at stones, my stone dealer send this one batch that had a unique kite-shaped diamond in it. It wasn’t what we were looking for, but I knew when I saw it that it was perfect. At that moment, I knew we had to pair down the design, and just let this perfectly beautiful stone take center stage. The next time my client and I met, we looked at the stone together and she fell in love — the way you do when you know you’ve met “the one.” We talked about the previous design iterations. She decided she really wanted the stone to be front and center. I couldn’t have agreed more. We paired it down to the simplest, most elegant setting we could think of. I ended up creating a simple bezel, perfectly fit around this one-of-a-kind stone, with an elegant slim band. When the ring was finished, she immediately put it on her hand, and it fit like a glove. It was truly a ring made just for her, with a stone that is truly a heart-stopper.
